Cristian Michael, David, Micael Christoffer and Robert made their profession of First Vows at Alnmouth Friary on Saturday 13th December.
Manasseh Birah died on 22nd November 2014 at Kira Kira in Makira Province in the Solomon Islands. He was born on 3rd April 1955, professed on 19th October 1982.
The Rt Rev'd Jon Bruno, Bishop of Los Angeles and Bishop Protector of the First Order Brothers in the Province of the Americas has taken office as Bishop Protector General, after the conclusion of the Most Rev'd Roger Herft's term of office.
The Francistide SSF Provincial Chapter elected Cristian Michael, David, Micael Christoffer and Robert to First Vows.God willing, they will all take their First Vows at Alnmouth Friary on Saturday 13th December.
All constituent parts of SSF have ratified the election of the Rt. Revd. Jon Bruno, the Bishop of Los Angeles and Bishop Protector of the First Order Brothers in the Province of the Americas, as Protector General. He will take up this role on 8 November,2014, which is when Archbishop Roger Herft, the current Bishop Protector General, finishes his term as Protector of the Province of the Divine Compassion. Bishop Jon has been elected Protector General by the representatives to the First Order Chapters (FOC), for a three year term. In doing so, the Society has suspended a constitutional requirement for a six year term so that in three years’ time, at the next FOC, the next Protector Generalcan be elected by the usual process.
Brother Raphael SSF (Ramon Lewis Parker) died in the early hours of the morning of Thursday 11th September. He died peacefully after a short illness in Chesnut House, the residential care home near to Hilfield Friary in Dorset. Brothers from the friary have been visiting him, and were able to anoint him in the days before his death. He was 78 years old and in the 41st year of profession as a brother in the SSF. The funeral mass and burial in the friary cemetery took place on September 30th. Please remember the brothers at Hilfield, and Raphael’s remaining family, in your prayers.
Willie Dagi and Wilson Malama made their first profession of vows at Hautambu Friary, Solomon Islands, on Ascenscion Day, 29th May .
Brother Martin SSF passed away peacefully at Newham General Hospital in London in the afternoon of Monday 19th May. He had been suffering ill health for some time, with a degenerative lung condition, but was receiving visitors to the end and took Holy Communion the day before he died. He was 89 years old and in the 63rd of his Profession in vows. His funeral took place on Friday, 30th May at 1 pm at S. Peter's Church, London Docks where Martin worshipped on Sundays and helped the clergy and was on the Board of Governors for S. Peter's School.
Brother Cyril SSF made his profession in first vows on Wednesday 19th March, 2014, at the St John Retreat House, Gangchon, South Korea.
James Race was admitted to the noviciate at Evening Prayer on Thursday 16th January at Alnmouth and will be known in community as Brother James Douglas.
Archbishop David Moxon, Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome and the Archbishop of Canterbury's Representative to the Holy See, has been appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in HM The Queen's 2014 New Year Honours in recognition of his services to the Anglican Church. Archbishop Moxon was deputy protector of SSF in New Zealand until May 2013 when he moved to his new appointment in Rome. He has been a long time friend of SSF, and as diocesan bishop of Waikato and Archbishop of New Zealand he was very supportive of the brothers in New Zealand.
Bishop John Charles Vockler (former Br John Charles SSF) died on 6th February, 2014. He was born 22 July 1924, and ordained deacon and priest in Newcastle Dio, and then in 1959 at the age of 35 he was ordained co-adjutor Bishop of Adelaide. He was then bishop in Polynesia 1962 to 1969 when he resigned that see to join SSF, initially in the European Province. He was transferred to the (then) Pacific Province in 1975 and was guardian of the Brookfield Friary. He was then elected minister provincial in 1976. He resigned as guardian in 1977 and was part of the initial group in the Islington, Newcastle, friary from 1978-1981. He was then transferred to the USA, and left SSF in 1990 to join a breakaway Anglican group. His funeral (memorial service) was on Wednesday 19th February at St Mary's Roman Catholic School Chapel, 2 Grant Street, Maitland.
